- "Olodum" & Olodum's Musical Band is a non-governmental, cultural group founded in 1979 to combat social discrimination, boost the self-esteem and pride of African Brazilians, and defend and fight to secure civil and human rights for marginalized people in Bahia and Brazil.

Note of Interest: Atelier Ricardo Miranda is from Pelourinho / Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. This is the same location that Michael Jackson's 1996 music video, They Don't Care about Us, was first filmed (Directed by Spike Lee). Spike Lee called it a "Protest Song". Even further, Michael wore an "Olodum" t-shirt, and the Olodum peace sign was highlighted throughout this controversial music video! You can also see other artists' artwork paintings in the background in one of the video scenes The song has been called "Sharp, militant, direct — a rallying call for the voiceless and oppressed." (-- JOSEPH VOGEL, Assistant Professor, Merrimack College). Please view the music video when you can. It is believed that this Untitled (OLODUM) Painting was done during that 1996 period.
